Kansas City Zoo

The Kansas City Zoo located in Kansas City, MO 64030 is a 202-acre zoo home to an array of animals and world-class exhibits. The zoo officially opened in 1909, then known as the Kansas City Zoological Gardens, after real estate speculator, Thomas Swope, donated land to Kansa City in 1896. The Kansa City Zoo brings families together and provides educational information to all its guests across generations. Visitors learn about conservation, environmental issues and challenges and discuss potential solutions. The Kansas City Zoo’s conservation program contributes significantly to preserving the diversity of species and conserving resources on earth while influencing others to do the same.

In 2008, the Kansas City Zoo was voted one of America’s best zoos and is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The zoo is home to more than 1,300 animals, including amphibians, birds, fish, mammals and reptiles. It features exhibits such as the Helzberg Penguin Plaza, Stingray Bay, and Orangutan Canopy. You can explore the zoo via multiple different transportation options. The zoo offers a Zebra Tram, which takes guests along the African elephants and flamingos. It also features a railroad, which is a mini train that takes guests around the main areas of the zoo with stops along the way. There is a Kenyan Cruise Boat Ride that operates from Memorial Day to Labour Day and takes visitors for an up-close view of the African Savannah animals. The African Sky Safari is a modified ski lift that goes over the middle of the Africa section and riders can choose to ride a round-trip or get off on the other side at the chimpanzees. The zoo also has a number of dining options from the Tuxedo Grill to the Rafiki Restaurant or Safari Snacks. If you’re looking for something cute and cuddly to take home, the zoo also has a number of gift shops.

The zoo has something for everyone and it is affordable. It is a great place for family fun for kids of all ages.
