The Regnier Family Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City

The Regnier Family Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City Missouri is a fully accessible non-profit children’s museum dedicated to providing STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math – educational experiences for young children and their families. The museum is over 30,000 square feet with an additional 1/2 acre of year-round outdoor space. The museum is easy to access via public transportation and major roadways.

The museum was created to help spark a lifelong love of learning through the universal and uniting power of place. In 1988 the Johnson County Commissioners established a task force to study programs and activities available to children and their families in the local community. The study found that there was a lack of hands-on, interactive programming. That finding led to the founding of the museum in 1989 when it began serving the community as a traveling exhibit. Fast forward a few years to 2020, after many mergers, the museum moved into a brand new facility on Red Bridge Road in Kansas City Missouri.

This is the perfect place if you have young children. The Wonderscope has exhibits that are appropriate for a variety of ages (toddlers to 10 years old). It is meant specifically for young children and adults without an accompanied child will not be granted admission.

The museum features a number of different exhibits that appeal to a wide audience. The indoor exhibits include crossroads of past and future, WonderMart, Creation Station: Design Lab and Art Studio, Water Works, Kansas City Cafe, On the Move, Wonder Climber, Kid City and Tot Spot. The outdoor exhibit NatureScape allows visitors to explore a half-acre of exhibits that reflect Kansas City’s diverse environments, such as urban, suburban, rural, natural and agricultural. The outdoor exhibit even includes a maze and a fully-accessible treehouse. The museum has a number of family-friendly spaces, including a gift shop, program room, party rooms, nursing nook and relaxation station.
