Kauffman Legacy Park

Kauffman Legacy Park in Kansas City MO is a popular walking and running area for locals and is home to a variety of plant species, birds, insects, and small mammals. It provides an urban greenspace for the education and enjoyment of the public. The park was created with a focus on conservation and highlighting native Missouri wildlife. The lake serves as a stopping point for Canadian geese on their annual migration in the fall and winter. Some even nest in the area and have goslings in the spring.

The park is home to Kauffman Community Gardens, formed in partnership with Kansas City Community Gardens, among other facilities. The Anita  B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center is located in Legacy Park. This is a popular field trip destination for local schools and has hiking trails open during daylight hours. The 10-acre center is the perfect display of native habitats, including woods, wetlands and prairies. Children can enjoy nature-oriented play and adults can take advantage of the many trails.

The Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden is over 2-acres and provides a tranquil place where everyone is welcome. The gardens feature a number of perennial beds and many unique trees. The staff and volunteers change the annual plant displays at least four times per year. There are five designs featured throughout the gardens, including The Allee, Green Garden, Orangery, Parterre Garden, and Secret Garden. The garden draws inspiration from Ewing and Muriel’s life as a couple and their dedication to sharing with others. This part of Legacy park first opened to the public in 2000 and has since welcomed visitors throughout the year.

This park is the perfect place to escape city life and get in touch with nature. With so much to offer there is something for everyone and the vast area provides endless opportunities for exploring.
